Hey boo hey!
Last night was a wake-up call—literally.
I was awakened in the middle of the night with a pounding headache.
My first thought? Let me just push through and wait for my alarm to go off.
Big mistake. The headache wouldn’t let up, so I sat on the edge of my bed, grabbed what I thought was my dual-action pain relief, and downed it. No big deal, right?
Fast forward to 4:30 a.m.—it’s raining, I’m driving to work, and I feel sluggish. Like, barely-keeping-my-eyes-open sluggish. I pulled over because something felt...off.
And then it hit me.
I didn’t grab the dual-action. I grabbed Benadryl.
Yes, Benadryl. The sleepiest little pill. No wonder my headache was still going strong, and I was feeling like I was moving through molasses.
I called one of my amazing nurses (Justice!) who stayed on the phone with me until I made it safely home.
So, why am I sharing this? Because this is your reminder—and mine—to slow down.
I’ve been burning the candle at both ends, trying to prep for the new year, get my life in order, and keep everything running smoothly.
And in that chaos, I neglected a small but crucial detail: what I was putting into my body.
This isn’t the first sign either. Earlier this week, I misplaced my keys three times. Left home without my wallet. Walked into a room and forgot why I was there.
Sound familiar?
Here’s the truth: life is busy, and we’re often so focused on doing everything for everyone else that we don’t take a moment to breathe.
But sis, if you don’t slow down, life will slow you down—one way or another.
So, if you’re feeling like I’ve been lately, do this for me:
Pause. Just stop for a second.
Take a deep breath. Exhale slowly.
Gather your bearings. Focus on the moment.
You’ve got this. I’ve got this. But we can’t keep pouring from an empty cup or making moves while we’re running on fumes.
Let’s slow down, pay attention to the details, and take care of us first. 💖
If you can relate, drop me a comment. I know I’m not alone in this!
Let’s share our stories and remind each other to slow down and take care of ourselves.
Lead with love, always. 💖
